"Tackhead was created when bassist Doug Wimbish, guitarist Skip McDonald and drummer Keith Leblanc, the SugarHill Records house band (and one of the electro funk most recorded rhythm section) met english dub master and On-U sound boss Adrian Sherwood in 1984.
First under the moniker Fats Comet then Tackhead, they have recorded experimental 12" singles, using sampler as a real instrument, mixing dub, funk and industrial music. In 1989, vocalist Bernard Fowler joined the band into a less underground direction.
Tackhead was also a backing band for Mark Stewart or Gary Clail." (taken from www.discogs.com)

Digging in my archive I found my pre-selection for a show I played with Tom Bauminista at the icon club in Berlin at the end of 1999. The icon club was famous for Drum and Bass music, but sometimes there were nights with related musical stuff.

My vinyl pre-selction had it´s focus on electronic Dub and Reggae tracks: Vol.1 & 2 starts with some On-U sounds, followed by tunes taken from some Dub albums of the early 80´s and features in the end a lot of Mad Professor´s Ariwa sounds.

If you like the Electric Darkness in Dub-series, you may like this one, too. Similar, but less futuristic. Dub, Drum and Bass, Electro, Trip Hop, Blues and Jazz, all with a little dark, melancholic taste.
And take my advice: Please, don´t use this mix in the bright daylight, it won´t work.

Tunaman Tse: Best Of High Rise Dub System

"No matter what the people say, High Rise play it the digital way!"
In 1996 Tunaman Tse released three tapes with conscious digital music, mostly UK dub, named High Rise Dub System verse 1 -3. Following his digital strategy, he uses strictly compact discs for his selections.

In 2001 I released a best-of-compilation of these tapes on my label "e-lion tapes". Last year I was lucky to find an old digital copy of my tape, so I´m able to present this compilation again.

Sunday Joint - a Switch Docta Off-Beat Matinee for blogrebellen.de

The blogrebellen-crew asked me for a contribution to their famous Sunday Joint series. What a honour and pleasure, indeed.

After I had made a few sketchy selections from the most different styles (Drum & Bass, Neo-Dub, TripHop, HipHop, Jazz, Funk and even Folk) which were not anyhow the right ones, I was stuck. Then I have listened after long time once more to Michelle Shocked. Namely her unusual double CD "Deep Natural/Dub Natural". And then it went all at once like by itself.

After the A-Capella-Intro of Michelle Shocked follow Off-Beat-Instrumentals and Dubs with the spirit of the pre-digital and band-oriented aera. It starts calmly and laidback with Phil Harmony and Sonic Boom. Further it goes with tracks featuring the classic solo instruments of reggae : e.g., the Dead 60see the organ, Dub Guerrilla trombone and guitar, Bluekiller the trumpet, 10ft. Ganja Plant the melodica and Cedric Brooks the saxophone. There follow two relatively new reggaedubs of tracks which were recorded with female singers (Dennis Bovell / Joss Stone and Prince Fatty/Holly Cook). Shortly before end still comes an instrumental tune with a surprising Free Jazz middle section and as a final track a lover's rock of Dubblestandart feat. Marcia Griffiths, remixed by the Hard Fi and Roots Manuva producer Wrong Tom.
