Again from my large tape archive: A selection of tunes played on the radio in Berlin in 1988. The independent radiostation “Radio 100″ had a weekly show called “Dubstreet”. I recorded it sometimes (to an audiotape, of course). It starts with some heavy Ska tunes, followed by Rocksteady and Rootsreggae (remember: Peter Tosh was killed only a few months ago, Ska had his second revival). And it´s finished with some really fresh Dancehall. So everything, that was hot at this time was presented in this realy good show. Fortunally you got the music, unfortunally there are no comments of the radio DJs.

Muslimgauze by Ibrahim Khider (March 2005)

“He was a guy who was very smart, very sharp, and very funny, in an untypical way, so that if you worked with him and got on his wavelength, he was a joy. He was cool guy and sorely missed. He never came across as a person who was interested in Islam as a religious faith. It was more to do with the political movement of the Middle East more than anything else. He was obviously very knowledgeable because when you look at his song titles he was talking about obscure figures in that part of the world and making obscure jokes. He wasn’t a Muslim and to me he never came across as one who had a deep understanding of the Islamic faith.” In later years, Bryn seemed to be emerging from his isolationist tendencies as he was besought with more requests for collaborations, remix projects, shows, and interviews. It’s highly unlikely Muslimgauze would have ever “made it big,” but he was getting wider recognition and acclaim for his music. This may have had something to do with emerging cultural changes in the latter decade of his life, with accelerating migrations to the West and the advent of electronic dance music. A new generation of savvy listeners perceived music beyond traditional pop constraints, and Muslimgauze was no longer such a stretch; increasingly, his listeners are from places to which Bryn dedicated his music”

Keine. Aber wir erwarten auch keine. Das ist nicht wichtig.”

It presents the musical work around Jacob Miller, the early Inner Circle and the Fatman Ridim Section. You will find radical Rastafari tunes alongside sweet melodys und heavy dub versions. Recorded from different sources, mostly from the original vinyl, it has the characteristic taste of analog recordings. A treausure for everyone who loves the revolutionary sound of the late 70s, the Golden Age of Reggae and Dub.

This was the second cd-release of my little mixtape- and homerecording label back in the year 2000. You´ll find here melodica versions of famous roots and dub tracks from the early 70s to late 90s of the last century, non available elsewere. And a never released riddim of the mighty Ras Command. This cd showcases the art of mixing by selecta Bauminista featuring the female melodica player Mrs. Melody. Both were members of Dub Squad, a Berlin based Roots and Dub Soundsystem in the 90s (by the way: I was the 3rd member, Sister I-Fua was the part time percussion player. Actually she runs the Rootsman Culture Store in Berlin). I was responsible for the final mastering and the cover artwork.
