Hart an der Grenze - rebel music inspired by the novel

• December 17th, 2008

The titel of novel by Norbert Himme´s “Hart an der Grenze” can be translated in different ways. It could be read as “Close to the edge” or as “Strong at the frontier”. The story is about a rebel punk rock youth in the late seventies / early eighties of the last century. It´s about a life on the boring country side of West-Germany. A life between books, music und rebellion. Rebellion against the “normal” live and the downpressing society. And, of course, against the growing power of a nuclear industrie. Reading the book, you´ll find a lot of music between the lines, it was the soundtrack of these times. (Click here and read some lines (in German))The author, a good friend of mine, asked me to mix down an extraction of this sounds. So here it is.

Dubmotion: the all sessions

• December 9th, 2008

This one was recorded at the Berlin Culture Centre “All” in the year 2000 and was released on a small number of tapes. It was a female project including Sister Baba on the decks, Mrs. Melody playing the melodica and Sister Ifua playing the percussion. Overdubed in the studio by the all-massive. I was lucky to find one of the tapes, that is still working (I beg your pardon for the sound quality). And the playlist got lost, too. But check the artists and you can be shure to get a really good blend of Dub, Ambient and Reggae.

21_Dubmotion.jpg

So here´s the “playlist”:

  1. High Priest 04:43
  2. Aba Shanti-I 04:08
  3. Messenjah 03:50
  4. ? 02:40
  5. I-Shensound 04:27
  6. Sabres of Paradise 06:04

  10. Hempolics 07:31
  11. Burning Bush 06:09
  12. Vienna Dub Melange 05:40
